Sep 20, 2014 - FFJ Empty Shoe Campaign [Calgary AB] ~ Part 1 ~ INTRODUCTION & OPENING PRAYER

Thank you every one for joining us today for the FFJ empty shoe campaign.  Impaired driving is the leading cause of criminal death in Canada. It is our desire to help educate and support all victims of this completely preventable crime.

First, I would like to introduce ourselves We are a Canada wide group of parents, siblings, family and friends that have united together to share stories, offer support, help guide each other through this endless heartache and help each other navigate through our criminal justice system.

In our efforts to see each other through this we have learned there is one common thread in our experiences.  We sadly have all come to learn that even when the accused is convicted of impaired driving causing death, the corresponding sentencing handed out in no way reflects the severity of the crime, the loss of life.  Our children’s lives.  It’s a senseless and 100 percent preventable crime.

Each pair of these shoes represents someone’s son, daughter, mother, father, grandparent, friend.  Someone was just trying to get home, get to work, get somewhere.

Opening prayer and moment of silence for all of the loved ones lost
