I am very pleased to let you all know that I received a call today from Ottawa. Sheri Arsenault from Alberta and I have a meeting confirmed with the Justice Minister of Canada, Mr. Peter MacKay on February 28, 2014.

We will be speaking about the need for mandatory minimum sentencing for anyone convicted of impaired driving causing a death and for the need to change the Criminal Code of Canada to amend the current charge of impaired driving causing a death and redefine it as vehicular manslaughter.

I will also be taking the letters that many of you have sent expressing what the impact has been to you and your family over the loss of your child or loved one. I will forward them on to Mr. Mackay. If you have not sent a letter letting him know the impact of impaired driving you can still send one. I will need to have it emailed to me no later than February 14, 2014.

We have welcomed 5 new families to Families For Justice over the past 2 months. These families have lost a father, a brother, a daughter and 2 families have lost their sons. We are so sorry for their loss but we welcome them to a group where we offer a safe place to come and to talk when they need to. We are an ear to listen when needed and we will lend a hand when they have fallen and are trying to pick up the pieces. We know what they are going though and we hope that we can help them through their journey of grief as well as answer some of their questions about the legal system.

I hope that you all are doing well. Please let me know how you are doing or if there is anything that you would like to share with the group. Take care everyone we will let you know how our meeting goes.
