MADD Golf Tournament 12-1

The 11th annual MADD Golf Tournament was held on Friday, July 13, at the Links Golf Course in Spruce Grove.

A fatal vision putting contest was set up where golfers paid a dollar to put on specially made goggles and attempt to putt.

There were several goggles to choose from each representing a different blood alcohol level and thus impairing your vision to different degrees.

It was here that we set up the boy’s pictures.

As each golfer approached the area the boy’s faces were the first thing they saw.

It was the starting point for many conversations about impaired driving and the devastating consequences.

MADD Golf Tournament 12-4

With us at the putting green were MADD -Edmonton Vice President Susan Semotiuk & her husband Ken.

They offered support, compassion and the understanding that only someone who has gone through this type of tragedy can provide.

Displayed at each hole was the picture of someone who was killed by an impaired driver.

This is a picture of Susan’s grandson – Mikey who was killed when he was only 4 years old.
MADD Golf Tournament 12-6 Event organizer Gillian Phillips (on the right) kindly permitted us put out the “Families for Justice” petition and as a result we have obtained several more signatures.
MADD Golf Tournament 12-7 The winning team of Rick Mallett, Trent Brown, Hal Raypold and Alan Brackett also happened to represent the title sponsor for the event – James H. Brown & Associates

We would like to thank Leila Moulder, the President of MADD Edmonton & Area and all the other volunteers and participants for welcoming us to this event. We hope to participate in future events to help spread awareness to the consequences of impaired driving and to aid in their ongoing fundraising efforts.
