Feb 11, 2012 - 17 YEAR OLD FEMALE FROM STETTLER FATALLY INJURED IN SINGLE VEHICLE COLLISION (Koralea Boettger case)


On February 11th at 1:34 a.m., Stettler RCMP responded to a 911 call reporting a collision on a rural gravel road, approximately 5 kilometers northwest of the Town of Stettler.

As a result of an investigation, it was determined that a 2001, Dodge Ram pick-up truck had traveled off road left on Township Road 39-2.  The eastbound vehicle struck a stand of trees, which impacted the right side of the cab.  A 17 year old female passenger from Stettler was found to have sustained fatal injuries in the collision and she died at the scene.

The 19 year old male driver from Stettler sustained minor injuries and he is now in Police custody.

Both occupants were not wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision, the engineered life space of the vehicle was intact and the road conditions at the time of the collision were dry.  Weather and visibility were clear.  Alcohol and speed were factors in this collision.

The ongoing investigation has resulted in 19 year old Trevor James DAHL of Stettler being charged with the following:

  1. Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Death, contrary to Section 255(3) of the Criminal Code.
  2. Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Death, contrary to Section 249(4) of the Criminal Code.
  3. Failing to Comply with the demand of a Peace Officer to supply a blood sample pursuant to Section 254 of the Criminal Code, knowing that his operation of a Motor Vehicle caused an accident resulting in death, contrary to Section 255(3.2) of the Criminal Code.

 The accused has been remanded in custody for a Bail Hearing in Red Deer Provincial Court, on Monday, February 13th.

 The Criminal Investigation is continuing.
