One man and one child are dead after a three-car collision on Sunday afternoon in Vaughan near Toronto.

Police several hours later identified the deceased as a nine-year-old boy and a 65-year-old man.

Four other people suffered bad injuries: two children under 10 years old were transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, while two women are in stable condition with serious injuries.

"It's a very serious collision," York Regional Police Const. Andy Pattenden said of the T-bone crash that happened just after 4 p.m. ET at the intersection of Kirby Road and Kipling Avenue, northeast of Kleinburg.

All of the dead and seriously injured were occupants of the same vehicle, while two persons from another vehicle which was damaged managed to escape injury.
