Sep 10, 2016 - 'WE HAVE A SERIOUS PROBLEM': WALL POSTS LONG ANTI-DRUNK DRIVING MESSAGE ON FACEBOOK

Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall has posted a long anti-drunk driving message online, saying he wants to take measures in the upcoming legislative session to work on the issue.

“Saskatchewan. We have a serious problem,” says the message, posted Saturday morning on Wall’s public Facebook account.

“We need to stop this.”

The message talks about the effects of drunk driving accidents on those left behind before moving on to changes that have been made to impaired driving laws under Wall’s governance.

It then says Wall wants more changes to be made during the upcoming legislative session.

“It is my request of Ministers that we have additional measures ready for urgent consideration next month when the Legislature reconvenes,” the message says.

The post ends with a plea to Saskatchewanians to do their part.

“So pick a designated driver, take a cab, hide your friend’s keys, give away your own keys,” it says.

Wall’s Sask Party government was involved in a drunk driving controversy last month when then-Deputy Premier Don McMorris resigned from his ministerial positions and the party caucus after being charged with impaired driving.

McMorris pleaded guilty and received a fine of $1,820 and a one-year licence suspension, with court hearing his blood-alcohol content was 2.5-times the legal limit.
