Mar 16, 2017 - BKT MEMORIAL FOUNDATION DONATING TO THE LOCAL SKATE PARK IMPROVEMENTS

Next week, the Brad Kole Thad Memorial Foundation will donate $40,000 for improvements to the Beaumont Lions Skate Park. All Beaumont residents are welcome to come out to the cheque presentation in front of the skatepark (weather permitting) at 1 p.m. on March 21, followed by coffee and snacks in the council chambers.

In the 2017 budget council earmarked $50,000, totaling $90,000 for the skatepark improvements, which will go to a committee of park users and a consulting company to determine what amenities will be the best suited for the money, said Kerry Hilts, the general manager of community and protective services.

“I think this is something that is much needed in our community. The skatepark itself is a number of years old. I just think by doing the updates, we’ll be able to add some elements to it and give it a refresh, and then we can work towards a new park in the future,” Hilts said.

The skate park is a well-used amenity within the community, Hilts said.

“When I look out at it, there’s always youth out there. And even in the winter here when the days are nice and the snow is melted there’s kids on there,” he said. “It’s a well-used park.”

The committee is expected to be formed in the summer. From there, the entire process, including construction process is expected to take approximately two years.
