Nov 12, 2010 - SECOND MAN CHARGE WITH STREET RACING IN TEEN'S DEATH (Jeremie LeBlanc case)


Edmonton police charged a second driver with street racing in a three-car crash that killed 16-year-old Jeremie Leblanc in April.

Rena Noi Onevathana, 31, was arrested on Wednesday.

He is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle by street racing causing death, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and failure to remain at the scene of an accident causing death.

Jayant Soni, 31, was charged Monday with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle by street racing causing death, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and refusal to provide a breath sample.

On April 23, the drivers of a white 2007 Lexus IS250 and a silver 2005 Mercedes Benz were speeding north on 66 Street towards 31 Avenue at 11:30 p.m. when they rammed an Oldsmobile Alero trying to turn left.

Jeremie LeBlanc was behind the wheel of the Oldsmobile. He was rushed to hospital with critical injuries where he died shortly afterwards.
