Aug 16, 2011 - PIKOWICZ REMANDED INTO CUSTODY [Justin Pollock]

A funeral was held last Tuesday, Aug. 9 for Justin Pollock, the 17-year-old Pierceland youth killed in a single-vehicle collision on Highway 21 Aug. 4.

Pierceland residents, as well as friends and family, have come forward in sharing their sympathies and memories of Justin, a recent high-school graduate, with the Pollock family.

Notes and videos have been posted online for the family that share memories of a young man described as an athlete and caring friend.

“I’ll never forget the times we had, the good and bad, you always had an awesome way of bringing a smile to our faces,” one friend wrote on the day of the youth’s passing.

“Just can’t believe this has happened. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Pollock family. Justin was a good kid and will be missed dearly,” another wrote that same day.

In connection with the accident, where a vehicle is believed to have crashed into trees lining Highway 21 just north of Pierceland, 34-year-old Bradley Pikowicz of Pierceland made two appearances in court last week.

An Aug.8 hearing in Meadow Lake was adjourned to the next day. On Tuesday, Aug. 9, Pikowicz was remanded into custody facing charges that include impaired operation of a vehicle causing death and bodily harm, as well as criminal negligence.

A woman, Jamie Desjarlais, was also injured in the accident and taken to hospital that day.

Pikowicz will next appear in court on Sept. 7 in Pierceland, where it’s expected he’ll have a chance to enter a plea.
