WHERE: Mitford Ponds in Cochrane

WHEN: Tuesday, July 02, 2013 to Tuesday, July 09, 2013

TIME: 11am

October 8th, 1995 – December 6th, 2012

Brandon’s family and friends have organized the “Cruze for Jr. 2013” event because they wanted to complete a special trip to British Columbia that Brandon wanted to take this summer. Unfortunately, because Brandon Thomas was killed in a tragic car crash on his way home from work by an alleged impaired driver, he will be making this ‘road trip’ in spirit with his family and friends.

The ‘Cruze’ will begin on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at the Mitford Ponds in Cochrane.  Between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 there will be guest speakers including a member of Families for Justice.  So far, approximately 70 people are participating in this tribute to Brandon, who was a popular and much-loved teen.

The ‘Cruze’ will continue with the group camping, collecting petition signatures, and meeting with media in six different towns in B.C.  The B.C. Chapter of Families for Justice have organized campground sites and media coverage in Revelstoke, Kelowna, Merritt, Chilliwack, Surrey, Hope, and Penticton.

On Tuesday, July 9th the group will return to Cochrane at the stage area of the Mitford Ponds Park at approximately 5:00 p.m. where they will be welcomed back after what will surely be a very emotional but also healing trip for Brandon’s family and friends.  There will be media coverage, live entertainment provided by some incredibly talented youth, including Lucas Chaisson.  Volunteers will provide a BBQ dinner and refreshments for all who attend the welcome back portion of the ‘Cruze’.  There will also be an opportunity for people to sign the Families for Justice Petition which is being presented in the House of Commons by MP Blake Richards.

There has been a Royal Bank account set up in the name of “Cruze for Jr. Brandon Thomas (Account #09974-5057815)” for cash donations.  Cheques can be made out to “Cruze for Jr.” and mailed to:

Devenee Bowron
Box 3, Site 11, R.R. 2,
Cochrane, AB  T4C 1A2.

All donations will be used to set up a scholarship in Brandon’s name and directed to the ‘Mechanics Program at Cochrane High School’.

Also, donations and sponsorship would be very much appreciated to help the youth organizing and participating in this impaired driving awareness campaign in Brandon’s memory.  The majority of people participating are teens/young adults. The proceeds would go towards helping to cover the cost of the many campground fees along the way, gasoline costs, and other related costs to the group involved in this tribute to Brandon Thomas. Any donations for the Cruze participants can be made to the trust fund at the ATB in Cochrane in the name of either ‘Brandon Thomas’ or ‘The Thomas Family’.
