Jul 23, 2013 - FAMILIES FOR JUSTICE GETS MEETING WITH JUSTICE MINISTER AFTER ALL

An Edmonton woman trying to change laws surrounding drunk driving is getting bounced around thanks to the federal cabinet shuffle.

Sheri Arsenault of "Families for Justice" was promised a one-on-one meeting with the Justice Minister. When Peter Mackay came in as the new minister, that meeting was lost in the switch.

Arsenault has been invited to a roundtable discussion on victims' rights on Thursday here in Edmonton, which she says is a good start.

"Being able to meet the new Justice Minister and for him to get information on myself and Families for Justice is a very good step, and we're happy it's taking place so soon after last week's disappointment."

She'll continue to push for a meeting with the minister. Arsenault wants stiffer penalties for drunk driving offences. Her son was killed by an alleged drunk driver in a crash near Beaumont in 2011.
